Great memory (3/9/2014) from Howe Alumni & former Howe Lion basketball player, Colton Williams’ Mom Stacey: “Howe High School was established in 1907, and a hundred years later the 2007 High School Basketball team made their first trip to State Playoffs! I remember this so well....emotions were running everywhere, and I know it was the best thing that ever happened in these boys’ lives! They made it to the semi-finals, but unfortunately, they came up short! I know they wouldn't have traded that experience for anything, and I was so proud of them for giving it their all! I would like to congratulate the 2013 Howe Lions for advancing to State playoffs......and bring home that Gold Ball!!! 🏀🏆” - Stacey Harrison And now, forward to 2020, and the Lions are headed back to STATE for the 3rd time in our school’s history! You know what they say, “3rd time is the charm!” #UnfinishedBusiness #GoHowe #LionNation

Check out several of our Howe Girls Who Code Club members showing off their new club t-shirts! Howe MS and HS Girls Who Code club has over 60 members and meets weekly. Mrs. Parks is the club Facilitator. They are currently working on a space-based coding project in the Sphero Robotics Mission. Howe's Girls Who Code members are part of a sisterhood of 90,000 other awesome girls who are using computer science to shape their world. Howe's Girls Who Code Club is working to ensure that women have a greater role in building the technology of the future by teaching our members computer science skills today! What is Computer Science? Computer science is the study of all of the different ways computers can be used to make things easier, faster, or more fun. Computer science is used in a ton of fields -- from medicine, to art, to robotics, and media! Coding is writing instructions for a computer in a language it can understand. Coding is just one small part of computer science. In the Howe Girls Who Code Club, members will be doing more than writing code -- they're going to practice thinking and creating like a computer scientist. Computer scientists are people who study all the different ways that code and computers can be used to create new technology. Just like a computer scientist, our students will try on a bunch of different hats, like Designer, Problem Solver, and Coder! For more information on Howe Girls Who Code or to volunteer with our club, contact Tammy Parks at email@example.com #HPSLions #LionsOfCode #GirlsWhoCode

High School students! DID YOU KNOW? IXL’s Skill Plan for the ACT provides support for the math, reading, and English portions of the ACT. Students can choose the score range they’re aiming for (based on their state requirements or college entrance plans) and complete IXL skills aligned to each content area for that score goal. If you find that you're not quite ready for the recommended skills for their target score, you can work on the aligned skills for lower target scores and then advance when you're ready. Talk to your teacher or Mrs. Parks about developing an IXL Skill Plan for the ACT! #HPSLions

“Not your grandpa’s FARM TRUCK anymore!” Over the past two years, the Howe FFA students have been learning how to apply their Ag Mechanic skills through a hands-on project truck! This 1959 Chevy truck was donated to the program by Middle School Teacher Paula Decker. It belonged to her late husband Ed. The students will be showcasing the truck at next week’s FFA banquet on Thursday, May 9 at 7 pm at The Warehouse. Howe Public Schools established their FFA program in 1950. In 1959 (the year model of this truck), 100% of all the boys in Howe HS were enrolled in Ag! Howe continues to have an-award winning FFA program, and this truck build is just one example of the numerous creative and exemplary projects under the advisement of Mr. James Marshall. Howe Superintendent, Mr. Scott Parks has also been assisting with this class over the past two years. Don’t miss this year’s banquet to learn more about this amazing project. #HPSLions #HoweFFA

Howe High School has implemented a new program for the Spring, 2019 semester. Students have the opportunity to enroll in an Internship program and receive high school credit while learning about future career opportunities. Local businesses have partnered with Howe Public Schools by allowing students to come to their place of business five days a week for one to two hours each day to learn through hands-on experience about careers within our community. Presently, three students have enrolled in this program. Marlene Miller works at Benzer Pharmacy from 1:25 to 3:05 pm each day. Dr. Steve Helm, the Benzer Pharmacist, is thoroughly pleased with Marlene and her willingness to work. She has done everything asked of her and never complains. She observes a lot of the time, but spends some of the time finding expired medicines and cleaning (part the duties of owning your own business). Joseph Bacon works at Mark it Place from 10:10 to 11:50 am each day. Karen Mill, owner of Mark it Place, believes Joseph has a bright future in the area of Graphic Design/Computer Science. He catches on to things quickly and completes the task at hand. Joseph is learning to use CORELDRAW software. He designed his first key chain and was very excited about the finished product. Joseph learned Photoshop in the Howe Multimedia class and CORELDRAW is an advanced continuation of using the skills learned at Howe. Karen is quite pleased to have Joseph each day. Hope Lockhart works with Dr. Scott Parham at the Parham Chiropractic in Cameron, OK on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10:25 am to 12:25 pm. She also works with Mary Parham at the Historic Downtown Poteau office on Mondays and Thursdays from 10:25 am to 12:25 pm. Hope has been learning the clerical side of the business. She will also have the opportunity to observe Chiropractic procedures. Hope has already toured Parker University in Dallas, TX in hopes of attending Chiropractic school after graduation. Mary and Scott are very pleased with Hope and are excited to have her as a part of their team. #HPSLions #OutsideTheLions
