Update 08/05/24: $30 school supply Visa cards are available for all verified Howe Johnson O' Malley Indian students (EC - 12th grade). Supply cards can be picked up at the Technology Building during Back To School Night on Tuesday, Aug. 13 between 5-8 pm! A parent/legal guardian signature is required at time of pick-up and the student must be a verified JOM student. To be eligible for services through the Johnson O'Malley (JOM) program at Howe Public Schools, students must be enrolled in the district, and parents must: Provide the student's tribal membership card, and/or parent's card & child's state-issued birth certificate. Welcome to the Jungle, Sarah Scarberry! The Lion Pride is thrilled to introduce Sarah Scarberry, our new Middle School ELA teacher and High School Softball Assistant Coach! With 11 years of experience teaching and coaching, Sarah brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to our jungle. Sarah has dedicated six years to teaching at the high school level and the past five years at the middle school level. Her love for coaching and helping players develop is evident, and she is eager to continue this journey at Howe, guiding our students both academically and athletically. Outside the classroom and off the field, Sarah enjoys spending time with her family, playing ball while she still can, fishing, hunting, and reading. Welcome to the Jungle, Vernon Scarberry! The Lion Pride is excited to welcome Vernon Scarberry, our new 5-12th Softball Coach and 3rd-4th Basketball Coach, to Howe Public Schools! Vernon brings five years of experience coaching softball and elementary basketball, with a passion for teaching and inspiring young athletes to be their best both on and off the field or court. When he's not coaching, Vernon enjoys quality time with his family, whether it's cheering them on in their athletic pursuits or going fishing together. He treasures these moments and the bonds they create. Although leaving his former school wasn't in his original plan, Vernon believes this move to Howe was God-led and has been the best decision for him and his family. Welcome to the Jungle, Kimberly Griffith! The Lion Pride is thrilled to introduce our new Elementary Special Education teacher, Kimberly Griffith! Kimberly brings a wealth of experience and a heart full of dedication to our jungle at Howe Public Schools. With an impressive 17-year career spanning various educational roles, Kimberly's journey includes four years in private schools teaching PreK and 4th grade, two years in Tulsa Public Schools as a 1st-grade teacher and behavior interventionist, six years as an administrator for CNIL Durant, OK, three years as head of special education at Liberty-Eylau High School, eight years mentoring new teachers, and three years teaching applied English in special education classrooms. Outside the classroom, Kimberly cherishes her time with her two adult children and beloved grandchild. She enjoys traveling, spending quality time with friends and family, and writing. Currently, she is completing an ebook educational guide for parents of students with special needs. Her deep connections to Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Texas reflect the love she has for the friends and memories made in these states. Raised in LeFlore County, Kimberly is excited to return home and spend quality time with her parents. We are delighted to have Kimberly's expertise and passion join our pride. Welcome to the Jungle, Tiffaney Kirby! The Lion Pride is excited to welcome our new School Safety Specialist, focusing on High School Behavioral Counseling: Tiffaney Kirby! With a solid foundation of 9 years teaching 1st, 3rd, and 5th grades, Tiffaney has recently earned a Master’s in School Counseling and is ready to embark on this new adventure. Returning to her roots, Tiffaney graduated from Howe in 2004 and is thrilled to rejoin a school filled with cherished memories. Together with her husband, Caleb, they are proud parents to two active sons, Chet and Reid, who keep them on their toes with basketball, baseball, and team roping. Outside of school, Tiffaney enjoys reading (preferably on a beach) and camping with her family. Her passion for education and dedication to her new role will undoubtedly support and guide our students as they navigate their own paths through the jungle of high school. Welcome to the Jungle! Meet Mrs. Cara Yakel, our Newest Lion! Roaring into the heart of our pride, Mrs. Cara Yakel is ready to embark on a wild adventure at Howe Public Schools. As our new High School ELA Teacher, she brings a fierce passion for teaching and a knack for navigating the untamed terrain of English literature. Mrs. Yakel hails from the dense academic jungles of Carl Albert State College, where she taught freshman and sophomore English Composition classes for six years. Known for her keen instincts and a lion’s courage, she brings a wealth of knowledge and an infectious enthusiasm to her new role. Residing in Poteau, Ms. Yakel’s teaching style is as vibrant and dynamic as the jungle itself. She believes in fostering a lively and engaging learning environment where every student can thrive and roar with confidence. Outside the classroom, you might find Mrs. Yakel enjoying music, playing instruments, or binge reading great books. She has been married to her high school sweetheart for 22 years, and they have three fantastic teenagers. A die-hard Harry Potter fan, Mrs. Yakel’s love for memes is unmatched! This will be her first year in secondary education, and she is ready for this new adventure! She loves the culture of teamwork and community that she sees at Howe, and she is so excited to be a part of this great family. Below are instructions to complete the enrollment process. Reminder: This year online enrollment is through our PowerSchool Parent OR Student Portal. If your student finished the school year at Howe Public Schools last year, and you DO NOT have a PowerSchool Parent account, please complete this request form. https://bit.ly/howepshelp DO NOT CONTACT THE OFFICES, help requests will be processed through this help form only. Step 1: Login to your PowerSchool parent OR student account at http://powerschool.howeschools.org/public and follow Step 2 below. If you have forgotten your Parent or Student Portal PowerSchool login username and/or password, please choose the "Forgot Username or Password?" blue link at the bottom of the Student and Parent Sign In Portal at http://powerschool.howeschools.org/public and follow the onscreen instructions.
