ARCADE MODE ACTIVATED in Mrs. Parks’ Computer Science Classroom! This week, Mrs. Parks’ classroom was alive with creativity, collaboration, and some seriously impressive coding skills.
Our 8th grade and high school Computer Science students wrapped up Code.org Unit 3: Interactive Games & Animations by programming original games in JavaScript. They then transformed the room into a live arcade experience and welcomed younger Lions to serve as official Game Testers.
Visitors did not just play the games. They tested them, chased high scores, and discovered how code controls movement, scoring systems, and overall game logic.
Every single Computer Science student designed and built their own Makey Makey game controller. Using cardboard and conductive materials, students engineered custom controllers that physically interacted with the code they wrote. They explored how circuits function, how input travels to a computer, and how a simple touch can translate into a keyboard command inside their game.
Watching younger students light up when they realized they were completing the circuit was real STEM magic.
This week was about much more than games. It was about students becoming creators, high schoolers mentoring younger Lions, coding meeting hands-on engineering, and confidence shining through every explanation and demonstration.

HOWE ELEMENTARY CELEBRATES TWO STATE FINALISTS!
We are proud to share that Lindsay Rana (1st Grade) and Jason Cagle (4th Grade) have been selected as two of only 15 elementary finalists statewide for the 2026 Excellence in Education Awards hosted by the Professional Oklahoma Educators Foundation.
While eligibility is limited to POE members, the selection process is highly competitive, and being named a finalist places Mrs. Rana and Mr. Cagle among the very best elementary educators across Oklahoma.
As part of the nomination process, a professional video crew recently visited Howe Elementary to film both teachers in their classrooms, capturing the exceptional instruction, relationships, and leadership they demonstrate daily.
The awards banquet will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, April 10 at the NCED Conference Center in Norman, Oklahoma.
To have two finalists from the same elementary campus is an incredible honor and a reflection of the outstanding culture of teaching and learning at Howe.
Please join us in congratulating Mrs. Rana and Mr. Cagle and wishing them the very best at the awards banquet!

We have placed all of our lost and found items in the cafeteria for parents to go through tonight. Please take the time to go there and try to locate your student's belongings.
More Than the Score
Some of the most meaningful moments in Lady Lions basketball happen before the opening tip.
For the past two seasons, junior Charis Wright has helped lead a student-initiated tradition of bringing both teams together in prayer before Varsity girls basketball games. What began as an idea among teammates has grown into a powerful moment of unity, reflection, and purpose.
This microblog story highlights how one quiet act of leadership has influenced others, including younger athletes watching from the stands. It is a reminder that character, faith, and sportsmanship matter just as much as the final score.
