Huge shout out to Angel Barbee with Kiamichi Tech Poteau for some amazing work she did with our students this week. We also want to thank her for the following email that she sent that talks about our wonderful students and the valuable information they gained from her.
Good afternoon,
Thank you so much for extending the opportunity for me to visit and complete career exploration activities with Howe students this week! The teachers at Howe are ROCKSTARS, and Mrs. Cox was so accommodating and helpful in assisting me in planning my visit. Your school climate is special at Howe, and I know this comes from professionals who love their jobs and more importantly, professionals who love students! Your students were engaged and asking pertinent questions using higher level thinking skills obviously extending from engaging with adults at your school in a meaningful way. My focus with your students was to set achievable educational goals in order to reach their future career goals, and it was an easy conversation because of the groundwork the staff at Howe is laying each and every single school day. Together, we completed activities to explore options available to your students to prepare for a future of contributing to the economic development of our area through their chosen career paths. I have attached the student login information, a few pictures, and am providing a link to the results from the 8th grader's game of KAHOOT (KAHOOT is a game created for the 8th graders to learn about training in the trade industry available to them at the Kiamichi Tech Poteau campus). https://create.kahoot.it/user-reports/live-game/9984c1c1-2c3b-4a74-aee0-c994ec6c3a88/8d8e066b-f847-4b96-a77c-eab39280569b/1666119626694/summary?organisationId=

Finally, they chose a program of interest at Kiamichi Tech and drew a picture of themselves completing training or doing work in that specialized career field.
6th grade - 44/46
Students learned about programs offered at Kiamichi Tech by playing a trades matching game particular to the trade training offered at the Poteau Kiamichi Tech campus, got logged into OK Career Guide (OKCG) accounts, took the Career Interest Assessment, and set a Career Goal in the OKCG system.
7th grade - 45/47
Students learned about programs offered at Kiamichi Tech, got logged into OK Career Guide (OKCG) account and updated info, took the Career Interest Assessment AND the Skills Confidence Assessment, and set an Academic Goal in the OKCG system.
8th grade - 37/39
Students learned about programs offered at Kiamichi Tech through a game of KAHOOT, got logged into OK Career Guide (OKCG) account and updated info, took the Career Interest Assessment AND the Skills Confidence Assessment, and set Academic AND Career Goals in the OKCG system.
Total - 176/183 (94%)
I am so excited to return to work with your students exploring education and career options in the spring! We will be hosting 8th graders on our Kiamichi Tech campus on November 15th for our Career Connections event. We look forward to seeing these students on our campus where we will continue to partner with you in guiding them towards the direction of a profession. Please let me know if you have any questions or if I can assist in any way!
Go Lions!
