State Bound!!! FFA Members win the Poteau Regional Opening Ceremonies contest headed to State Monday!

Mrs. Parks' Computer Science I and II students (along with Mr. Casey's 3rd hr Multimedia class) attended an Amazon Future Engineer Virtual Fulfillment Center Tour today. The students learned how computer science, engineering, and people work together to fulfill customer orders at Amazon. Throughout the tour, the students got to meet and hear about the careers of three engineers who enable this technology. The computer-science focused interactive tour provided a front-row seat into how algorithms, machine learning, and more power the Amazon fulfillment process. Mrs. Parks' students will be chatting with additional Amazon engineers soon, and also competing in the Amazon Cyber Robotics Challenge! #HPSLions #amazonfutureengineer

Our Howe HS eSports team welcomed a special guest speaker today during their 5th hour class. Former CASC eSports team member and Heavener HS graduate, Dawson Adrean spoke to the class about the skills and teamwork needed for competitive eSports, and shared tips for developing specific skill sets. The newly formed Howe HS eSports team is a member of the Oklahoma eSports League (OESL), and the team is already scrimmaging/competing with other schools around the state in after school matches, under the guidance of their Coach, Mr. Brett Casey. In Sept, OSSAA added eSports as a sanctioned sport. During this first year under OSSAA, eSports will be exhibition season only, and OSSAA state championship competitions will start during the 2022-23 school year. According to the website NFHS.org, [eSports] "provide many opportunities for growth and learning, such as the creation and practice of “soft skills,” including communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity. Many of the same skills that employers are looking for in recent graduates." Learn more about eSports at https://www.nfhs.org/media/1020194/parents_esports_guide.pdf. Good luck to the Howe Lions eSports team during their match today at 4 pm! We would like to send a BIG THANK YOU to Dawson Adrean for sharing your valued expertise and motivation with the team! #HPSLions

Pandemic Electronic Benefits Transfer (P-EBT) is a program that helps children who would have received free or reduced-price meals at school if not for the COVID-19 pandemic. As of Sept 17, students who qualified should have received a debit card preloaded with funds that can be used for groceries.
For the 2020-21 school year, school children must meet two important eligibility requirements:
Children must have been enrolled in a school district that participates in a federal meal program where meals are served at a school, and
Children must qualify for free or reduced-price meals based on income and have turned in the free or reduced-priced meals application to school for 2020-21, OR be enrolled in a school that participated in the Community Eligible Provision, Provision 2 or Provision 3 federal program in 2020-21.
There is no application process for these benefits. Families will receive benefits automatically if their school has identified to the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) that a student qualifies.
If your child received virtual instruction in 2020-21, and you believe your child meets the eligibility criteria and you do not receive your card by Oct. 15, 2021, please go to sde.ok.gov/pebt page to fill out an inquiry form. If you believe you did not receive your card due to a change in address, you will need to fill out the inquiry form. The form will become available by Oct. 15.

According to Mrs. Nobles, “Cecilia is an amazing intern in my class. She is beautiful inside and out and has made such an impact on my students. She is definitely a big part of our family. Fifth grade rocks!” Cecilia has allowed the internship to influence her on a future career choice. She wants to be an Elementary English teacher. Elementary and Middle School Parents and Guardians - In order to keep your children safe, if you are picking them up at the elementary office, please bring your ID with you. We have a lot of students and we do not always recognize everyone that is allowed to pick them up. Also, if someone other than people on your pick up list is to pick up them up, call the office and let us know ahead of time.
