
We would like to welcome Mrs. Lacie Thompson as a new teacher at Howe Public Schools.
Mrs. Thompson earned her Bachelors in Special Education from NSU. This is her 9th year of teaching in public schools. She has taught at all levels, High School, Middle School, Elementary, and Special Education.
Lacie is married to James Thompson, a Howe graduate and they have one daughter, Juliette.
In her free time she enjoys spending time outdoors with family and friends, traveling and attending ballgames and various activities involving her daughter.
When asked about starting the school year at Howe, Mrs. Thompson shared, “I’m very much looking forward to the upcoming school year and officially becoming a Howe Lion. I’m a 3rd generation educator, and my favorite educational quote is: “If students have teachers that love teaching, they will learn to love learning”.
We have always enjoyed Lacie’s presence as a parent at our school events and functions, and now we are excited to welcome her as a staff member. Let’s give her a big Howe Lion ROAR! #HPSLions

We would like to welcome our new Howe High School Principal, Mr. Darryl Smith. Mr. Smith has over 20 years of experience in public education in Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico. Mr. Smith earned his Bachelors and Masters of Education from Southeastern Oklahoma State University with a concentration in school administration and music education. He has been a Band Director for numerous years, and served as an Assistant Principal at Guymon High School, a 5A school in the Oklahoma panhandle for five years.
Mr. Smith has been married for 30 years, and he and his wife have two sons, ages 28 and 14 and a daughter age 12. He enjoys fishing, working on cars, riding motorcycles and spending time with family and friends. Reflecting on the upcoming school year, Mr. Smith shared that he “is looking forward to working with an already great team at Howe Public Schools to keep building the future of young adults.”

High School Counselor Spotlight:
Mrs. Amy Donathan will assume the roles and responsibilities of the high school counselor at Howe High School for the 2020-21 school year. She is a 1992 graduate of Howe High School. Mrs. Donathan has an Associates of Arts from CASC, a Bachelors of English Education from NSU, and Masters of Education in the fields of school counseling and library media from ECU. She has taught for 25 years, 23 of those at Howe Public Schools. During her time at Howe, she has served as a high school English and driver's education teacher, a school counselor on both the high school and elementary levels, and the district's library media specialist. You might also recognize her as the bookkeeper for the Lion's and Lady Lion's high school basketball teams.
Mrs. Donathan is the wife of Jimmy Donathan, who also works for Howe Public Schools. They have two daughters, Abigail, who is a freshman at Howe High School, and two-year old Olivia, who attends the Lions Club Learning Center on the campus of HPS.
When asked about her commitment to Howe Schools, Mrs. Donathan references the familiar adage "Bloom Where You are Planted." As a thirteen year student of Howe Public Schools (kindergarten through twelfth grade), Mrs. Donathan feels appreciative and indebted to the system that helped to shape her and has always wanted to make a difference to the community and students of Howe. Once a Lion, Always a Lion!

Howe students who were virtual at any time & met the free/reduced meal requirement during the 2020-21 school year will receive a reimbursement from DHS. If you feel you might qualify, please come to the admin office to fill out a lunch application form by June 24th. #HPSLions

Attention Howe Senior Class of 2021 and Concurrently Enrolled Students: If you have not done so already, please plan on picking up your diploma next Tuesday or Wednesday, June 15 or 16 at the HS Office between 8 am and 3 pm. Additionally, any concurrently enrolled student (during the 2020-21 school year) maintaining a "C" grade or better in that course, can pick up their concurrent enrollment reimbursement check at the same times listed above. Reminder: The Leflore County Senior All-Star game will be hosted by Howe High School on May 21 with the girls game beginning at 6 pm and the boys game immediately following. The cost for the game is Adults $3 and students $2 with all proceeds going to benefit the Leflore County Basketball Coaches Association... $250.00 in scholarship money will be awarded to The Most Valuable Players from the North and South Basketball teams. #HPSLions

Basketball Individual camp for 7th and 8th graders tomorrow (5/14) is cancelled. Practice will be held Monday the 17th from 10-12 for all upcoming 7-8 grade boys. #HPSLions

Attention all former Howe baseball players of any age . . . You are invited to meet tomorrow (5/12) at the Howe indoor batting facility (behind The Warehouse) at 11:30 am to be a part of the end of the Howe Lions’ baseball practice. #HPSLions

The Howe Lions will depart for the State Tournament on Wednesday, May 12 at 1 pm from the Gym! All Howe fans are encouraged to come out for the send-off! #HPSLions

The Howe Lions will play at Poteau Tuesday at 4pm. A game to allow both teams to get ready for the trip to state. No admission for fans. After the game there will be food for players and fans available to celebrate both teams making the state tournament. Everyone bring a chair!
