This year year we welcomed Mrs. Jennifer Cox to the Howe Public Schools' family. Mrs. Cox serves as the Elementary/Middle School Behavioral Counselor. She has hit the ground running and has implemented several new programs that benefit our students and staff focusing on Social Emotional Learning and Wellness. We will feature student specific programs soon, but we wanted to share her Staff Wellness initiative featuring Wellness Wednesdays. On Wednesday of each week, Mrs. Cox sends out an email to staff with a theme that focuses on wellness, self-care, and community. The themes promote important ways to practice wellness, and hopefully provide some inspiration and motivation for our hard-working staff.
Along with the themed inspirational emails, mindfulness activities are included to allow staff to participate and engage. Staff who choose to respond/participate are entered into a prize drawing at the end of the month. Congratulations to September's winner, 1st Grade teacher Mrs. Kayla Sanford! Thank you Mrs. Cox for your inspiration and encouragement! #HPSLions #LionsROARasONE! #WeAreAllinTHIStogether

We would like to give a BIG SHOUT out to our HPS custodial staff for all the things they do to help keep our doors open at Howe Public Schools. You will find our staff disinfecting and sanitizing classrooms, playgrounds, lunchroom, offices, busses, etc. throughout the day EVERYDAY! In addition to the sanitization fogging process, they also deploy portable UV surface and air sanitizers in classrooms and offices on a daily basis. If you see one of our hard working custodians, remember to tell them thank you! Their work is greatly appreciated! (pictured is staff member John Didway fogging the Early Childhood Playground equipment before the start of the school day.) #HPSLions #WeAreAllinThisTogether

Dear Parent/Guardian:
The single best way to help prevent the spread of the flu, is flu vaccination. As part of a continued collaboration between the Health Department and the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, a school flu vaccination program is available this year which will provide voluntary flu vaccinations at no charge to school staff and students (native and non-native). This program would not be possible without the support of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.
Our local Health Department/Choctaw Nation Nurses will be at Howe Public Schools on Thursday, October 22, 2020. Linked below you will find a consent form that must be completed and returned before Thursday , Oct 22, in order for your child to receive a flu vaccine. We will be unable to immunize anyone under 18 years old without a completed consent form. Only injectable flu vaccine will be provided (nasal mist will not be available). If students are not cooperative, the vaccine will not be administered. Parents/guardians are welcome to be in attendance.
If you have any questions, please contact the LeFlore County Health Department at 918-647-8601 or Lori Hall, RN at Howe Public Schools at 918-658-3508.
You can access the letter and permission form at: https://5il.co/lzmv
